Introduction
Cedar Grove Environmental is a very independent analytical service and consulting laboratory established in 1974.  Our facility is located in central Chester County Pennsylvania, however, we offer courier service through our own staff, FedX, UPS and the Postal Service to supplement our clients needs for sampling and delivery to the laboratory.  Properly prepared containers, necessary preservatives, and even shipping containers or coolers are available from the laboratory along with written instructions as needed.  Sampling instructions, prices and other useful information are available at the laboratory or from our web site (http://www.cgelab.com) on the internet.

Our prices do not include sample pretreatment, digestion, or extraction, as many samples do not require these steps and should not subsidize those that find the requirements necessary.  These procedures are usually required only once although the resulting treated materials may be used for a series or group of individual analyses.   Examples would include such items as digestion (or turbidity measurement to avoid digestion as per applicable regulations), filtration and clean-ups or procedures to overcome sample matrix problems.

Cedar Grove offers a variety of reporting formats to suit our clients needs.  Special formats may be prepared for individual customers at no charge, depending on the complexity of the request.  Reports to government agencies on their required forms (as in the Drinking Water Program) are usually completed at no additional charge with both a copy of this form and a regular laboratory report being forwarded to the client.  Reports may also be sent to second parties, or FAXed at little or no additional charge.

Standard credit terms of Net 30 Days are offered to all credit approved clients.  Until such time as a credit application is approved, Cedar Grove reserves the right to ask for payment with sample delivery or prior to shipment of requested sample containers.  Most private checks are accepted and we also accept Visa and Master Card.  Delinquent accounts are not only liable for 1.5% interest and a $3.00 rebilling charge, but also any collection agency or legal costs incurred by Cedar Grove in recovery of overdue balances.  A complete statement of business terms and liabilities is included with laboratory reports and available upon request. Due to ever-changing methodologies, costs for reagents and materials, and governmental requirements, our prices are subject to change without notice.

For Microbiological Analyses
The minimum sample size for most bacterial samples is 100 ml (4 ounces), collected in a sterile container.  In most cases a neutralizing compound should be present in the container for unsuspected residual chlorine. Samples MUST be stored at 4o Centigrade during holding and transport.  The holding time should be as short as possible, and no longer than 24 hours prior to analysis.  As for all analyses at Cedar Grove, properly prepared sample containers and instructions are available at the laboratory.

Sample Preparation or Pretreatment Costs
Turbidity                                             $12.00
A simple turbidity measurement is proof that a liquid has no suspended solids.  This would legitimately permit the exclusion of such pretreatment procedures as filtration, digestion or extraction, depending on the application and sample.

Filtration                                             $10.00 ( May be higher for larger volumes or due to difficulty.)

Digestion                                            $15.00 ( May be higher for larger volumes or due to difficulty.)

  Soxhlet Extraction                              $45.00

 Sonication Extraction                         $45.00

  TCLP Extraction                               $75.00

Synthetic Rain Water Extraction      $75.00

TCLP Zero Head Space Extraction   $125.00

Other techniques are available.  Please call our office with your request.

Additional Selected Analytical Packages
There are a wide variety of analytical "packages" for everything from home owner safety to water or waste water utilities and corporate compliance/monitoring programs.  A few common sets of analytical parameters have been selected for presentation.  There are so many programs and new regulatory requirements, no attempt was made to present them all.  This sampling of required programs does not indicate the limits of our facility for individual analytical needs.  If your program is not described here, please feel free to submit a list to the office so a proper quotation may be prepared. Also keep in mind that some protocols require laboratory or unrelated third party sample collection and submission.

Please also note, sample preparation charges may apply should submissions require pre -treatment prior to analysis.  These procedures are usually required only once although the resulting treated materials may be used for a series or group of individual analyses.   Examples would include such items as digestion (or turbidity measurement to avoid digestion as per applicable regulations), filtration and clean-ups or procedures to overcome sample matrix problems.

May we suggest you consider one or more of the following options for a better private well evaluation

            * Consider a Standard Total Plate Count (if not already included)—This inexpensive analysis measures all the aerobic bacteria present in your water, not just the coliforms.  Large numbers of bacteria may indicate a problem in is brewing, or perhaps a reason to check again for coliforms at a later date.

      * Consider a Lead measurement (if not already included)---If your home is not new, there may be copper plumbing and/or fixtures that contain lead solder or components. A "first draw" sample typically has the highest levels of copper and lead you may expect from your system. A second sample, taken after running the water, will show more average use lead and copper levels.  Ask for details.

            * Consider a Corrosivity measurement—Water may be free of contaminants, yet corrosive to plumbing fixtures and pipes.  This can cause dripping and even pinpoint holes in pipes (leading to expensive repairs and possible property damage).

SPECIAL NOTICE: Department of Environmental Protection Additional Reporting Requirements
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) often requires the reporting of compliance testing be made using one of their own report forms.  In addition, these reports are to be sent directly from the laboratory to both the DEP regional and central offices.  Although there is a charge for this service at most laboratories Cedar Grove will accomplish such reporting for our regular credit approved clients, and prepaid individuals, with NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE .  Clients may still expect to receive a standard lab report in addition to such forms.

Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Regulated Inorganics Compound Series (Drinking Water)
(Analyses will be run using the methods selected by our clients.  However, the Pa. Department of Environmental Protection has recently required the more sensitive Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption procedure rather than the less expensive, and less sensitive, Flame Atomic Absorption method for drinking water samples reported to the Department.  This requirement is illustrated in a corresponding increase in analytical costs.  Please check analytical detection limits for your application.)

Please also note, sample preparation charges may apply should submissions require pre-treatment prior to analysis.  These procedures are usually required only once although the resulting treated materials may be used for a series or group of individual analyses.  Examples would include such items as digestion (or turbidity measurement to avoid digestion as per applicable regulations), filtration and clean-ups or procedures to overcome sample matrix problems.

Selected Organic Analyses
For Pesticide, Herbicide, PCB and Semivolatile analyses, please call our office for a quotation.  Due to the very large number of compounds and available analytical methodologies, costs and detection limits will vary.

Radiological Analyses
Please contact our office for such items as Gross Alpha, Gross Beta, isotope concentrations and Radon in water.  These items will be quoted as described by the need of the client.

Ask for information, and perhaps a quotation, for analytical requirements involving such procedures as Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedures, Zero Head Space Extractions, NPDES or RECRA Screening examinations, and other areas or specific analytical needs.
